On Sunday, Ramzy Al Duhami (KSA) and Untouchable 32 crowned a flawless week at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya and added to the team gold won three days earlier this Sunday the individual title in the B category over jumps up to 1.55m.

Previously, Faleh Alajami (QAT) and Qapella had won the gold medal in the individual A event, which featured jumps of over 1.40m to 1.50m. Parcours designer Louis Konickx (NED) achieved a remarkable point landing with two final courses of varying difficulty: After two rounds, three pairs each remained without any penalty points in both competitions, leading to a tie-break, in which the podium positions were already determined, but the color of the medals was still undecided.

In the individual competition for the higher jumps, Al Duhami and his 13-year-old mare had to put in one final flawless ride. They had come into the competition without a single penalty point during the entire competition. As the first of the three starters, Al Duhami and Untouchable 32 maintained this record and stopped the clock at 42.59 seconds with another zero on the scoreboard.

Team-mate Abdulrahman Alrajhi and Lorenzo ES, who had brought Tom Schewe to great sporting heights and had become German vice-champions in Balve in 2025 with him, were almost three seconds faster with 39.73 seconds, but errors at the first element of the double combination and at the final obstacle cost them eight penalty points. That was still enough for silver, because Basem Mohammed (QAT) and Chaccball, also with eight penalty points, finished in 43.26 seconds.

Eiken Sato (JPN) and Chadellano narrowly missed out on the medals as they took one time penalty from Saturday; however, on Sunday they ran a flawless round and finished in fourth place.

„A gold medal is always a gold medal. Of course, we are very happy. I came here with the goal of winning gold and was fortunate enough to win,“ said Al Duhami. „However, the team gold medal had more weight, as I was the last rider and it was my responsibility to secure the victory. Winning as a team was more difficult.“ At 54 years old, Al Duhami was one of the most experienced athletes in the field. The victory was his sixth gold medal at the Asian Games and his second individual title, 16 years after he won gold in the individual event in Guangzhou in 2010.

Alajami takes his chance in individual A

The previous battle for medals in the men's individual A event over 1.40m to 1.50m took a turn in the second round. Saad Alajmi (KSA) and Davenport, who had been in second place after the opening round on Saturday, remained flawless until a failure occurred at the penultimate obstacle, and Alajmi rode off prematurely. In this bout, Faleh Alajami (QAT) competed with Qapella, Almheiri with Hudson de Vains, and the top-ranked riders from Saturday, Almobty with Diana du Plevau Z, to win the medals – all three pairs had completed the two rounds without any penalties.

In the competition, each pair had one fall. Alajami and Almheiri each made a mistake on the second obstacle, so time was the deciding factor: with 40.88 seconds, the Qatari pair secured gold, ahead of Almheiri with 41.93 seconds. Almobty remained faultless until the final obstacle and won the bronze medal with a time of 45.35 seconds.

„The competition wasn’t easy, especially because I was the first to start. The pressure was great,“ said Alajami, „I am really proud of my horse. It has done well in these three days.“ The victory was his first individual medal at the Asian Games, 20 years after his first appearance. His career at the Asian Games began in Doha in 2006 in the dressage event, before he returned to the show jumping discipline. Three years ago in Hangzhou, he placed ninth in the individual competition and helped Qatar win a silver medal in the team competition. He also won the gold medal with a relatively new partner – Alajami and Qapella have only been together since this season, after he took over the mare from Guillaume Batillat.

With this result, Qatar secured one of the first individual titles awarded under the new equestrian competition format of the Asian Games, thus completing a final day of competition in which Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates shared six individual medals.

All results here

Fünf Durchgänge, fünf fehlerfreie Ritte und zwei Goldmedaillen.
