Flanders Foal Auction: “In search of scope”

Flanders Foal Auction is heading towards the final foal auction of the year on Saturday, 20 September, with a collection of 43 jumping foals. “We’ve raised the bar once again,” say Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts. When the foals on offer have excellent pedigrees and strong conformation, what else do you select for? “For the canter and the scope,” answers Gerald Lenaerts without hesitation.

The tone is set, because scope is the keyword for this auction. “Looking at the young horse championships of various studbooks, we believe we need to keep focusing on scope. Quality and blood are important in today’s courses, but the horses must retain the power to jump big if we want to compete in the top classes. I dare to say we have a strong collection of foals with scope, many of them bred from the best Belgian damlines that everyone knows are synonymous with power,” says Lenaerts.

The collection is diverse, with 24 colts and 19 fillies, descending from 25 different sires. United Touch and Emerald lead the way with five offspring each, followed by Heartbreaker, Balou du Reventon, Ermitage Kalone and Chacco Blue with three. Comme il Faut and Thunder van de Zuuthoeve are each represented by two foals in the auction.

More facts:

  • 8 foals are out of mares that jumped 1.45m level or higher, one is even bred out of a 1.70m Grand Prix mare (Ilusionata van ’t Meulenhof)
  • 14 foals have a granddam that jumped 1.50m level or higher
  • 14 foals have a dam that already gave a 1.45m or higher level showjumping horse
  • 31 foals have a granddam that already gave a 1.50m or higher level showjumping horse

Once again, the foals come from renowned damlines that have produced many Grand Prix horses, such as those of Emerald van ’t Ruytershof, Centa de Muze, Casall, van ’t Merelsnest, Roosakker, Qerly Chin, Butterfly Flip, Baloubet du Rouet and Cassini I.

One absolute eye-catcher thanks to his appaloosa coat is C-Bra van het Bokt (J-Nius V.V. Z x Conthargos). His four-year-old dam, Come and Get Me VK Z, was auctioned by Flanders Foal Auction for €48,000, being bred out of the valuable broodmare Anoeska van de Ruitershoeve (Clinton), dam of three 1.60m Grand Prix horses, two at 1.55m level and two at 1.50m level. This will be the last Flanders Foal Auction of the year, once again at Sentower Park. The presentation of the foals will take place on Saturday, 20 September at 18:00 CET. The auction starts at approximately 20:00 CET and, as always, can also be followed online. View the collection at www.flandersfoalauction.be
