Stuttgart German Masters: A top event celebrates its 40th birthday

Anniversary in the Hall Duo: The STUTTGART GERMAN MASTERS, which are among the most prestigious equestrian events under the Hall roof internationally and have been a World Cup venue in three disciplines for years, will celebrate their 40th edition from November 11 to 15, 2026! For the first time, they staged their event in the Baden-Württemberg state capital in 1985 (2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to the Corona pandemic), and during this time they developed into a meeting point for international riders who offered outstanding performances in jumping, dressage, four-in-hand driving, and versatility. The audience interest grew year by year, especially as the organizers cleverly included riders from the „Ländle“ in the program and, with the traditional „Day of Baden-Württembergers“, created a platform for top riders and the region’s young talent on Tournament Thursday. „The tournament combines top international sports, tradition, emotion and an attractive show program – and thus reaches many people far beyond the equestrian sports scene,“ says Guido von Vacano, Managing Director of in.Stuttgart.

Event company, which explains the continued success of Stuttgart events.

Furthermore, he emphasizes „the extraordinary impact of the tournament on Stuttgart as a sports and event venue“ and is already looking forward not only to the sporting events but also „to the special atmosphere in the hall and to many encounters with the athletes, partners, exhibitors, our experienced team and of course the visitors!“

The pre-sale figures show that the equestrian fans are also already excited and looking forward to the 24 competitions: „Currently, around 40,000 tickets have been sold,“ said Guido von Vacano, „and there are still tickets available for all nine event sections.“ Overall, the organizers expect more than 160 riders from 22 nations, traveling with nearly 300 horses.

18 medal winners from the World Championships in Aachen will start in Stuttgart, including from the Netherlands: Koos de Ronde, Ijsbrand Chardon and Bram Chardon, who secured the team world championship title this year; the Australian Boyd Exell, who won the individual world championship title for the eighth time; and the team third place finisher Glenn Geerts (Belgium). The German team is also fully represented: Anna Sandmann (6th), Anna Mareike Meier (8th) and Christoph Sandmann (13th) – they finished fourth in the team standings. Exell won eleven times in Stuttgart, Ijsbrand Chardon in 2016 and 2018, and de Ronde in 2011.

Numerous favorites in the World Cup ski jumping for the Grand Prix of Stuttgart

In the jumping competition, among others, the two individual medal winners from Aachen will compete in Stuttgart: the new world champion Steve Guerdat (Switzerland) and the silver medal winner, the Belgian Thibeau Spits.

Also starting are the newly crowned Team World Champions Richard Vogel, Sophie Hinners and Marcus Ehning. Also local hero Michael Jung from Horb, four-time Olympic champion in the all-around discipline, is also a regular on the list of riders to be reckoned with in the show jumping competitions. Also entered are

Christian Ahlmann, three-time GERMAN MASTERS winner in Stuttgart (2012, 2015, 2016), the Swiss Martin Fuchs (2019 GERMAN MASTER), Pieter Devos from Belgium (winner of the Grand Prix of Stuttgart in 2018 and 2019), and Kevin Staut – the Frenchman won the Grand Prix of Stuttgart in 2023.

„Dressage Queen“ Isabell Werth comes with her World Championship horse Wendy de Fontaine

The most successful rider in the world, Isabell Werth, always likes to compete in the Schleyer Hall. In her long career she has won a total of 14 Olympic medals, including eight gold medals, stood on the top step of the podium ten times at a World Championships and won a whopping 30 medals (22 gold) at European Championships! In Stuttgart she was the series winner in the Grand Prix Special (17 times) and in the dressage (eleven successes). Her World Championship horse Wendy de Fontaine is also listed on her nomination.

From the victorious Aachen World Equestrian Team, Katharina Hemmer and Frederic Wandres also present themselves, who are four-time Olympic champion and two-time overall World Cup winner (2022 and 2023). Jessica von Bredow-Werndl is also on the list of entries – she won the Stuttgart World Cup dressage in 2019. Moritz Treffinger was second in the iWEST Dressage Cup in Stuttgart last year and eighth in the World Cup final in Fort Worth (USA) at the beginning of 2026.

Michael Jung's tenth victory in the indoor multi-sport derby?

With equestrian master Michael Jung, who has been a ambassador for the STUTTGART GERMAN MASTERS for years, the newly crowned individual world champion wants to make it to the Neckar in the all-around competition. The 44-year-old wants to win the gold ribbon for success in the indoor derby on Wednesday for the tenth time this year. The German World Team Championship

Silver medalist Libussa Lübbeke, last year’s winner Cathal Daniels (Ireland), who also won in 2019, as well as his compatriot Jennifer Kühnle (winner in 2024), have also registered, as have Sven Lux, in the stable of Michael Jung’s head trainer, or the U25 vice world champion Linus Weiß from Möglingen.

Young talent can present themselves excellently at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Hall

Internationally, the young horses in Stuttgart can equally present themselves excellently in two competitions of the FEI Jumping Ponies Trophy, as well as at the Baden-Württemberg level where 15 junior horses are competing, who will already perform a style jump with obstacles on Wednesday afternoon.

The ten strongest dressage riders from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are competing on Wednesday and Thursday for the victory in the iWEST Dressage Cup after five qualifying tournaments this summer. The clear favorite is Jana Lang from Middle Franconia (RSC Nonnhof), who managed to win all five qualifying tournaments with her 20-year-old stallion Baron.

25 qualified players want to make it to the final of the BW-Bank Hall Championship

In Öhringen, Donnstetten, Bietigheim and Bisingen/Hohenzollern, the qualifications for the final of the BW-Bank Hallenchampionat took place in Stuttgart, which will be decided on Thursday evening. Leading the field is Tina Deuerer (RV Eppelheim) at the NeckarPark. In addition, four former BW-Bank Champions are also in the running: the six-time winner TimoBeck (RSC Salzstetten) won in 2000, 2002, 2008-2010 and 2016, Markus Kölz (PSV Burkhardshof) in 2013, 2015, 2023, Armin Schäfer (RV Mannheim) in 1999 and last year Mario Walter. What is interesting is the question of whether world and European champion Richard Vogel (RV Mannheim) will still make it into the 25-man field; he currently ranks 27th and would only be in contention if two of his competitors ahead of him were to withdraw.

On the occasion of the tournament anniversary, entertaining and attractive shows will be offered on the opening evening. The Brunold „Jeep Costume Jump & Drive“ will provide action and fun with six groups in imaginative costumes. An extraordinary and high-caliber presentation by the world’s most successful rider and tournament ambassador Isabell Werth demonstrates the highest standards of dressage. „Faszination Fahrsport“ will be presented by the two Swiss Daniel Würgler and Markus Luder, Jiri Nesvacil from the Czech National Stud Kladruby and Michael Brauchle (Aalen). The breathtaking choreography „Go West – High Noon“ is an exceptionally fast quadrille with five figures. The popular indoor derby for multi-sport riders is scheduled to conclude the opening evening.

The „Southern Summit – the iWEST® Top 12 Masters“, held for the first time on the occasion of the anniversary, will bring the „Baden-Württemberg – Bayern Battle“ on Sunday, November 15, 2026 at 12:15 p.m. Here, the six best riders from the BW-Bank Hallenchampionate on Thursday (November 12, 2026) and the iWEST® Bayern Championship (October 3 to November 4) will meet.
