The equipment of the horses must comply with the rules of equestrian training and the principles of accident prevention and animal protection:

Allowed teeth:

  • Water strainer (simple, double-bent or curved)
  • Olive head strain (single or double broken)
  • D-clip (single or double broken)
  • Schenkel tendon (single or double broken)
  • Rod clamps (unbreakable, also flexible)
  • Three-ring arrangement (unbroken, simple, doubly broken or bent) – a pair of reins in the large rings or in the small rings, or by a strap from the large to the small, lower rings
  • Pelham (straight, simple, double-bent or curved) – with or without a movable chin chain (including a leather or soft rubber/plastic base) – a pair of reins in the middle ring or on the strap from the middle to the lower ring
  • Spring bars (uncapped, simple, double-broken or bent) – with or without a movable chin chain (including a leather or soft rubber/plastic base)
  • Bauer-bite (unbroken, simple, doubly broken or curved)

In Class E: neither bar-shaped teeth nor Pelham-shaped or three-ringed teeth are allowed.

Up to and including Class M*: only one pair of reins is allowed at a time.

From Class M**: any harness with a bridle and/or harness without a bridle with or without a horse halter, with up to two pairs of reins, as defined in the previous note.

Thickness of the teeth (measured at the corner of the mouth): Ponies: 10-18mm, horses: 14-21mm

Permitted horse riding trails:

  • Reithalfter of Hanover
  • English equestrian trainer
  • Combined riding stirrup
  • Mexican riding boots

The reith halter should be comfortable to wear and should not interfere with breathing or prevent the horse from chewing.

Allowed knee pads on the front legs:

  • Bandages
  • Gamaschen
  • Bracelets
  • Spring glaucous
  • Fascination bands
  • Ball protector

Allowed knee pads on the hind legs:

  • Stripe caps with Velcro closure
  • Ribbon caps with button or hook closure
  • Double-layer gloves with Velcro closure
  • Double-layer gloves with button or hook closure
  • Bandages, but not under gloves
  • Fencing rings, fencing straps and ball guards
  • Spring glaucous

The protective element must be placed on the inside of the collar, fur is acceptable; minimum width of the straps is 2.5 cm and 5 cm for the straps; maximum length is 20 cm.

Gloves and all other equipment permitted for the protection of the horse’s legs must not only be properly put on; they must also not be changed during the entry into the preparation area. For this purpose, leaving the preparation area is also not permitted.

Saddle: including stirrups/stirrup straps and harness. A stirrup strap is permitted in pony trials of classes E to L.

Head numbers: From 2024, two head numbers per horse will be mandatory. These must be clearly visible throughout the entire tournament.

Front part: approved in all exams.

Allowed auxiliary stirrups:  The use of any type of bit and a lead rope on the training ground is only permitted from Class M** onwards. (Leash-rope jumping is and remains generally prohibited).

Insect protection:

Ear protection: The field of vision and the ear pads must not be impaired. Sound-absorbing material is permitted, but must not penetrate the ear canal/eardrum; noise and the sense of hearing must not be suppressed.

A mesh-like fly mask is permitted in the preparation area, but not when overcoming obstacles.

Stollen and Stollengurt: Allowed in all exams.

When which tunnels: On firm and hard ground, very sharp and sharp stakes are usually inserted into the pit holes. In soft and muddy terrain, on the other hand, wide and angular stakes are often used, which reduce the risk of slipping due to their shape. Don't forget: The stollen must be turned back out before the return transport.

Not allowed: With weights, Gamaschen or spring bells were used.

Not allowed: Lead ropes when overcoming obstacles
