Jens Wawrauschek as the best German second place finisher in the Grand Prix of Vejer de la Frontera

This weekend was a very special one for Jens Wawrauschek: On Friday he was allowed to ride his first national prize, on Sunday he secured a top-ranking finish in the Andalucia Grand Prix in Vejer de la Frontera, a CSIO3* over 1.55m. With the eleven-year-old mare Mava S (v. Messenger), which he has carefully trained over the past few years, he was the only German in the competition and finished second with a double zero behind the Irish rider Jessica Burke, who still managed to snatch the victory for him with her last starter on Fly for You (v. Quaprice Bois Margot). Her compatriot Francis Derwin secured the bronze medal on Flexi K (v. Flex A Bill).

A second German, Jens Wawrauschek's teammate in the Nations Cup, also managed to place in the money: A frustrating, minor error in the vault prevented Hannes Ahlmann from competing with the nine-year-old Cimarosa (v. Comme il Faut). But as the third fastest foursome, they were still in the running as ninth-place finishers, as only six had completed the challenging vault without contact with the bars.
