It is one of the tournament highlights in the north: From May 27 to 31, the international elite of ski jumping will gather at Erdbeerhof Glantz for the four-star ski jumping tournament, the DKB Horse Week Hohen Wieschendorf on the Baltic Sea – with European champions, world champions and Olympic winners.
On the 50 x 90 meter high-tech sand court with a tide-control system, the four-legged top athletes find the best conditions. In 21 jumping competitions, prizes of almost 300,000 euros are being awarded these days; the highlight is the Grand Prix of Hohen Wieschendorf on Sunday afternoon. The obstacles have an Olympic dimension with a height of up to 1.60 meters; at the same time, this Grand Prix is considered a qualifying test for the 2026 World Championships and the 2027 European Championships. A top-class jumping sporting highlight!
The international riders’ alphabet is in full swing at the DKB Horse Week – from Ahlmann to Will; the response of the riders to the fourth edition of the Four-Star Equestrian Tournament right on the Mecklenburg Baltic Coast is enormous. In addition to a Hof- und Weinfest (farm and wine festival), a giant Ferris wheel viewing platform and a family festival, show acts and plenty of strawberries, the focus at the Glantz Strawberry Farm in Hohen Wieschendorf from May 27 to 31 is above all on first-class equestrian sports.
From A to W – the ski sports elite meets in Hohen Wieschendorf:
Ahlmann, Hannes – Hannes Ahlmann has competed in six European Youth Championships. In 2021, he rode Nerrado in the Grand Prix in Pinneberg, and in 2022 the show jumper took part in his first national championship in Prague. The 25-year-old has now reached the top of the world rankings and can look back on successes at the highest five-star level.
Deusser, Daniel – is a World Cup final winner, a World and Olympic participant with Team bronze in Rio and a three-time European vice-champion with the team. In March, the 44-year-old was at the World Cup final in Texas and narrowly beat Kent Farrington with Otello de Guildenboom to take second place. The native of Wiesbaden comes from a family of horsemen; he has been riding for the Stephes Stables in Belgium since 2012 and is the father of a daughter.
Guerdat, Steve – The Swiss is a three-time World Cup winner, European champion in the individual and team events, a four-time World Championships participant with a bronze medal in the individual event in 2018 and a six-time Olympic participant with a gold medal in the individual event in 2012. Guerdat is the son of the international dressage coach Philippe Guerdat; in the autumn of 2012 he first took the top spot on the world rankings and in 2017 established himself in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland.
Kukuk, Christian – the Olympic champion from Paris! The 36-year-old turned his second Olympic appearance into a gold medal on Checker’s back; he has also already won two European Championships with Team Silver and Team Bronze, and was part of the winning team in the Nations Cup Final 2024. His grandfather Franz Kukuk was head groom at the country stud in Warendorf, and his father Norbert Kukuk was a successful show jumper. His mother Inge Kukuk worked for the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sports (DOKR).
Meyer-Zimmermann, Janne-Friederike – Team world and European champion and Olympic participant, all in the saddle of ‚Mops‘, aka Lambrasco. With Mops, she also flew over the final obstacle at the Grand Prix of Aachen in 2011, threw down the reins and cheered – the victory! And a picture that went around the world. With her husband Christoph, she runs her own jumping stable, Hof Waterkant in Pinneberg.
Thieme, André – nicknamed the ‚Million Dollar Man‘ because he has already won the one million dollar jump in the USA four times. Thieme is also known as an absolute Derby expert; he has won the German Derby in Hamburg four times and raves: „I love this jumping.“ And he loves his horse Chakaria, with whom he became a single European champion in 2021.
Weishaupt, Philipp – he was just 15 years old when he was awarded the German Equestrian Badge in Gold. At 17, he began an internship in Ludger Beerbaum’s stable; he still lives in Riesenbeck today. In 2023, he won silver in the individual event with Zineday at the European Championships in Milan and was part of the German team at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
Will, David – He won Team Silver at the 2021 European Championships on C Vier. Since then, he and his partner Richard Vogel have founded their own company, VW Equestrian, with which they train, sell and market horses and have established a worldwide reputation.
All of them – and many more – will take to the starting line at the DKB Horse Week in Hohen Wieschendorf, competing for glory, prize money, and above all the roaring applause of the spectators.
