On May 13th three years ago, the former multi-sport and jumping rider Ludwig „Lutz“ Goessing from Steinhagen celebrated his 85th birthday. Now the German equestrian legend has passed away, as Christine Meyer from Hartum has conveyed to us as a sad news.
Born in Dortmund and raised in Schleswig-Holstein, Lutz Goessing started his career in the show jumping saddle. He was twice German Champion (1966 and 1967) and won the bronze medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich together with Harry Klugmann, Karl Schultz and Horst Karsten. From 1973 onwards, Goessing devoted himself entirely to show jumping and horse breeding, competing, among other things, in 13 national championships for Germany and establishing himself as the breeder of the twice-Bundesmeister Rosella G (v. Ramiro).
Together with his wife Christa Goessing, who passed away in 2011, he worked for many years as a patron and sponsor of equestrian sports. In the late 1980s, for example, he accompanied numerous teams in the junior and young rider categories to the respective European Championships and supported riders such as Heinrich-Hermann Johannsmann, Susanne Behring and especially Mylene Diederichsmeier, who not only completed her training in Steinhagen but also presented the horses of the stable at tournaments. In April 2010, Tim Rieskamp-Goedeking took over the Goessing family's equestrian facility.
For his merits, Lutz Goessing was awarded the Peace Rider Award of the Westphalian Equestrian Association and in 2008 the German Equestrian Cross in Silver by the German Equestrian Association (FN). Now the German equestrian community mourns the loss of a Great from its midst.
