It was warm, but it rained constantly – which could not keep the riders and their horses in the rhythm. The program of the first day of the Midsummer CSI2*/1*/YH included a total of eight dressage competitions, all of them at the Milestone Farm Sand Arena.
Henrik von Eckermann won the main jump of the day, the LR Ashford Farm Prix Two Phases Special, on nine-year-old Iliana (v. Cardento) ahead of Milestone Farm rider Alexander Butler on the eleven-year-old gelding Pico (v. Checkhov Pzk). Toni Haßmann placed sixth as the best German rider with Class de Catoki (v. Class de Luxe), just ahead of Carsten-Otto Nagel on Coupeggio (v. Clarimo), who needed 15 hundredths more. Also in the money: Nisse Lüneburg with Toulini Olympic (v. Toulouse) from the stable of Athina Onassis in ninth place, ahead of Jens Baackmann on Coupeggio (v. Capistrano).
The qualifier for the final of the Medium Tour, the Eye Watch Security Group Prix over 1.40m in two stages, was the winning ride for Wim Vinckx on Impulse vd Heffinck. Behind Mathijs van Asten and Dragonfly de Longchamps in third place came Frederick Troschke with Camelot (v. Cabachon). And at the same time, jointly in eleventh place, also in the money: Nisse Lüneburg with Cinsey and Carsten-Otto Nagel with Cancaneur.
At the Parkhotel Horst 1*GP Qualifier, the weather made things really tough. First place went to the Colombian Nicolas Toro with Calven Cool, followed by the Belgian rider Wim Vinckx with Gentlemen Van Loheky. Third place was again reserved for a German rider: Toni Haßmann with Sea Coast Conbalet.
