Jessica Mendoza wins the Grand Prix in Barcelona; the final obstacle prevents Sophie Hinners from winning

Sophie Hinners had already won the trophy: She was one of eight riders to complete the course without a single fault and with a time of 71.73 seconds was the fastest rider in the Grand Prix of Barcelona – by far – and therefore Sophie Hinners started with Iron Dames Kaleni Jo (v. Kannan) as the last of the twelve riders who qualified for the final round for the overall prize money of more than 300,000 euros. She was then again the fastest, this time with 45.68 seconds in the shortened course. But the last hurdle fell exactly at the wrong time, and so instead of the victory the seventh place was awarded. The Brit Jessica Mendoza, who came from the course with In the Air (v. Air Jordan) as the fourth fastest, was the fastest double-nil rider with 46.94 seconds and secured the victory ahead of Rodrigo Pessoa on Major Tom (v. Vagabond de la Pomme) and Cian O’Connor on Kentucky TN (v. Verdi TN).

Due to her unfortunate finish, Sophie Hinners was not the best German in this CSIO5* over 1.60m either. Because Kendra Claricia Brinkop came in second in both rounds with Replay van ‚t Paradijs (v. Bamako de Muze) under the eyes of her boss and horse owner Stephan Conter without any mistakes. In the jumping round, six hundredths were missing from the zero mark; in the winning round, one more time error was added to that one. That meant sixth place.

World ranking first Richard Vogel had to settle for eighth place behind the two Amazons. An eleven-year-old Liverpool ox named Sprung was hampered by a broken leg in the run-up. As the fastest four-point rider, he nevertheless managed to qualify for the final round just in time; he had to start first, and was almost as fast as his teammate Sophie Hinners with 46.29 seconds.

For the fourth German starter, Jörne Sprehe on Sprehe Hot Easy (v. Andiamo Z), things did not go smoothly in the first round and she therefore finished the course prematurely.
