Munich has prevailed in the race for the German Olympic bid against the Rhin-Ruhr region and will now push ahead with the application for the Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2036, 2040 or 2044.
„Olympic and Paralympic Games in Germany would be a great opportunity for the entire sport. They can inspire people, motivate young people, and create a special sense of excitement throughout the country,“ says Dr. Dennis Peiler, CEO of Pferdesport Deutschland.
At the same time, Peiler emphasizes the high quality of both concepts: „Both Munich and Rhein-Ruhr would have been excellent candidates in terms of equestrian sports. Both applications have shown that Germany has strong locations and a great passion for sports. All the more pleased are we that the next step on the path to Olympic and Paralympic Games in Germany can now be taken.“
The impact that international top-level sporting events can have was already witnessed by equestrian sports this year at the World Championships in Aachen. The competition has enthused hundreds of thousands of people, generated great media attention, and put equestrian sports at the center of public interest for weeks on end.
„The World Championships in Aachen have shown what potential great sporting events can have for sport and society. The Olympic and Paralympic Games would further strengthen this effect. They create enthusiasm, connect people, and motivate young people to actively engage in sports themselves,“ said Peiler.
