Dutch trio wins triple victory in Maastricht; Katrin Eckermann is the best German

The Dutch riders were the benchmark at the CSI4* main competition over 1.50m in their home city of Maastricht. As the ninth rider in the jump off, Leopold van Asten on VDL Group Kwienbellie (v. Toulon) posted a double zero time of 36.74 seconds, which caused a stir among the competitors. The closest competitor was compatriot Maikel van der Vleuten with Quastor vd Heffinck (v. Rock’n Roll Semilly), who had just used 37.10 seconds for his double zero time earlier. And then as the penultimate rider, Michael Greeve still managed to place third in 37.77 seconds.

Three German amazons had also qualified for the jumping competition through flawless performances. Sophie Hinners skipped the final with Lommers (v. Carrera VDL), thus also missing out on the prize money, just as Johanne Beckmann, who finished with Emelie van de Mirania Stam (v. Emerald) after a mistake on the oxer at the second round, with four points after 39.64 seconds, which was about two tenths too slow for the 13th place, for which there was still prize money. The third German, Katrin Eckermann, also had a slight mistake with Iron Dames Cascajall NRW (v. Casallco) on the second jump, but was fast enough with 38.68 seconds to finish in twelfth place.

Johanna Beckmann could take some comfort, as she had won the opening 1.40m CSI4* event with Alphajet DB (v. Arpeggio) in the morning ahead of Denis Lynch on Katja (v. Etoulon) and in the afternoon placed fourth in the 1.45m CSI4* Stal Hendrix Prize with Esmeralda (v. Emerald) – this time ahead of Katrin Eckermann, who placed sixth there on Chao Lee (v. Comme il Faut).
