Victor Bettendorf faster than Thibeau Spits and Daniel Deusser in Cairo

Daniel Deusser was the first rider in the CSI5* Friday main event of the Longines Global Champions Tour over 1.55m at the Pyramids of Giza to complete the tricky course without a single fault: Riding Pepita van’t Meulenhof BR (v. El Torreo de Muze), with whom he recently won the German team Nations Cup in Calgary, Deusser made the course look almost effortless. Later, four more riders joined the competition, naturally putting the double D to the test. And that’s exactly what the team world champion did: After another flawless round and 38.78 seconds, the clock stopped and that was the pole position for the moment.

Until Victor Bettendorf entered the floodlit arena with Encore toi du Linon (by Kannan). The rider starting for Luxembourg turned even more sharply at the finish line and galloped over the finish line in 38.37 seconds. That was the victory. Just behind Bettendorf and Deusser, Thibeau Spits with King van Essene (by Calido I) ranked second.

„With the waterbed jump I had to be careful not to scare the mare. But after that I could just let her run. I just love to ride fast and then I really took full risk on the final jump,“ Victor Bettendorf laughed mischievously afterwards. „With the mare I just have to keep focused and we have to stay error-free in the course. Then riding her in the walk is just fun; the mare is super fast and also extremely cautious,“ explained the winner.

Sophie Hinners also managed to place well with a throw in the final round, finishing eighth with Iron Dames Kaleni Jo (v. Kannan).
