For a long time, Daniel Deusser looked like the sure winner: As the ninth starter, the team world champion rode Bingo St. Hermelle (v. Number One d’Iso) over 1.45m in St. Tropez during the Big Tour, setting a super fast time of 61.15 seconds. Almost all of his subsequent competitors failed to beat this record time.
Until the 48 pair of 50 starters entered the course in the Grand Prix Qualifier: Victor Bettendorf and Extasia Bella by Classic Z (v. Emerald) galloped over the obstacles at a brisk pace and were in the finish after only 60.30 seconds. This was the victory for Bettendorf, who had already presented the ten-year-old mare in Youngster races and had already been successful at 5* level with her.
Gerrit Nieberg and Blues d’Aveline (v. Baloussini) also remained error-free, but time was not enough for a place in the standings.
