It is a cruelty that is hardly imaginable: Since the middle of September, six breeding mares, mostly pregnant, have been attacked by humans on the meadows of Paul Schockemöhle’s stud farm in Lewitz. Three of them have died miserably from their injuries. „The loss of our horses and the circumstances of their deaths have deeply shaken us. It is all the more important for us that these incidents be thoroughly investigated and clarified,“ the stud farm has now explained, and has asked the public, especially in Mecklenburg, for help in identifying the cruel animal abusers.
In mid-September, the Gestüts staff discovered the first victim on a pasture: a dead mare with severe internal injuries. Ten days later, the next victim followed, a mare that later died from her severe internal and external injuries. According to the police, the series of attacks extends until October 11; the time of the incident is always shrouded in darkness. „It is certain that the horses were attacked by humans and suffered the most severe injuries,“ said a police spokeswoman.
„The police have been investigating this case intensively for a long time,“ the Lewitz Stud has now explained. „At the express recommendation of the investigating authorities, we are now reaching out to the public to reach potential witnesses and gather further information. We therefore urgently ask the population in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for assistance. Anyone who has made suspicious observations or can provide information that could contribute to the investigation of these incidents is urged to contact the relevant police station directly. We thank all those who support us in these investigations and can help with information. For relevant and helpful tips that lead to the arrest of the perpetrator or perpetrators, we are offering a reward of 10,000 euros.“
Anyone who can help, anyone who has seen or heard anything that could lead to the perpetrators' whereabouts should contact the police immediately:
